Fantasy sports have been constantly growing in the past decade, and hockey pools are well included in the fantasy world. Every pool has their own rules and the winner is the one that choose the best producing players available with those rules. To gather points, several categories are available. Some pools use the basic categories such as the most points, the most penalty minutes and/or the most wins by a goaltender. Other categories can be more difficult to predict, such as the plus/minus rating of a player. Hockey pool “manager” relies mostly on consistency of some hockey players in a specific category. A good example of reliability is the number of shutout Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils gets per season. When the consistent players are not available to pick, a question that arise a lot in the fantasy world is: when is the prime of the player?
In this four part article, we will explore the main categories that are strongly looked in a hockey pool : forwards, defensemen, goaltenders and enforcers.
